Solutions

Several time-resolved luminescence instruments have been designed by the Double Kinetic Systems team, what share some common ideas in their construction:

  • All of these instruments use Direct Waveform Recording for time-resolved luminescence measurement
  • All of them are L format instruments - emission is collected at 90o and focused onto the photocathode of photomultiplier
  • All instruments are assembled on breadboard or provided optical table
  • Microchip YAG laser is used for excitation
  • Same layout of excitation optics featuring trigger picker, wavelength selector, shutter, and variable excitation attenuator
  • Same design of optical detector
  • Same data acquisition software
Microplate reader
Concept of time-resolved fluorimeter in microplate reader format

This is just a concept for future development. It is suitable for experiments with big number of samples and for samples what require bottom reading such as live cells.

SX20
Double kinetic instrument based on mixer SX-20 from Applied Photophysics

The most resent design based on mixer SX-20 from Applied Photophysic. The mixer is driven by compressed air and has dead time longer than 2 ms. This instrument has improved luminescence collecting optics that increases its sensitivity by 70%. The rest of the design is similar to the Bio-Logic based instrument.

SFM20
Double-kinetic instrument based on mixer SFM-20 from Bio-Logic

This is our most successful design based on mixer SFM-20 from Bio-Logic. The mixer has syringes driven by electrical motors so it requires only electricity for operation. Its dead time with smallest 0.8 mm cuvette is less than 1.5 ms. The instrument has manual emission polarizer and slot for 2” x 2” square optical filter or 1” round filter in adapter.

box
Conventional time-resolved fluorimeter with sample compartment

This is our first design of a time-resolved fluorimeter. It has a roomy sample compartment with water jacked or Peltier temperature controlled cuvette holder with magnetic sample stirring. It can be equipped with manual or computer controlled emission sheet polarizer. Emission wavelength is selected using either 2” x 2” square or 1” round optical filter. Optional emission monochromator is available. Compartment has a lid activated shatter that protects the detector from damaging by strong light when lid is open.
